VIP in research
VIP acts through two G-protein-coupled receptors, VPAC1 and VPAC2. It is studied in smooth muscle relaxation, gut secretion, circadian rhythm research in the suprachiasmatic nucleus, and immune cell signalling. Most experimental work uses cell lines, tissue preparations and animal models.
